Japanese firms have constructed what they refer to as the first 3D-printed train station in the world, a compact white structure with a curved roof situated in a rural western area.
According to Serendix Corporation, which collaborated with West Japan Railway Company (JR West) on the project, the foundations and exterior of Hatsushima Station were completed in only seven days.

According to a statement from JR West in March, the components were strengthened with steel and a concrete cleat filling before being assembled on location. According to JR West's Naohiro Ohashi, "with traditional methods, constructing a roof and walls requires a month or two."

"We managed to set them up in roughly two hours—thus, there's a benefit regarding speed," he informed journalists last month.  The assembly process started after the final train departed from the station in Arita in the Wakayama region around midnight, and it was completed before the first train came in at approximately 5 am. Currently, the interior must be completed and ticket gates installed prior to the station's opening.

The height of the structure is 2.6 meters (8.5 feet) and its width is 6.3 meters. Engraved on its side is a round pattern intended to resemble a mikan orange, a regional delicacy.
Serendix reported it utilized a "unique mortar" to construct the station employing a construction-grade 3D printer that features a robotic arm.
